“The car came rushing down… and almost smashed us.”

So I was driving my kids to school that day, and we had the green, and a car came rush- rushing down from [Street 1] 'cause we- we're turning from [Street 2]. The car came rushing down from [Street 1] through a red light and almost smashed us. I had to swerve to avoid getting killed. So she's rushing down to take her kid to school. And we -- so we, we got out of her way, but then we had -- we're still going in that direction. We end up being behind her. And it turns out, she -- her kids go to the same school [as] my kids, so her car -- we both drove to the drop off line at the school, same school, and her car was in front of us.So this lady who almost killed us right before school started, she sends her kids to the same school that we do. And what's worse is this is a Christian school. She almost killed us right before school started. What a way to start your school day, almost getting killed by somebody who’s -- goes to the same school -- by the mom -- it’s because the mom is trying to get you to school before the bell rings. Oh boy.

“‘Recipes are silly.’ And my jaw just dropped.”

I have a friend who often has unrealistic expectations about what they can do. The main one being in the kitchen. Now, this friend believes they are an incredible cook. And it is true they love the food they cook. They love it so much. It makes them so happy. And unfortunately, most people don't love it. Most other people, it is not quite to their palate. And that's hard, and my friend struggles to understand that because they think it is the most delicious thing that has ever graced God's green earth. And other people can barely eat it. And I lived with this person in a big house where they cooked for us once a week and this was really difficult.  And then one day after eating their food for most of a year, I walk into the kitchen and there's a lot of baking stuff around, and I go like, "Oh, what are you making?" And they're like, "I am baking my first ever cake." I'm like, "Oh, that's so much fun. Congratulations, like what's it for?" "Someone's birthday." "Oh great." And then I'm like looking at their cake and I'm like, "What, what kind of recipe are you following?" And they were like, "I don't need a recipe. I don't cook with a recipe. Recipes are silly." And my jaw just dropped. I just stared at them. You're kidding me. You've never baked a cake before in your life, and, and you didn't even like, talk to anyone about how baking is fundamentally different than cooking in important ways where you should follow a recipe and actually measure your ingredients? And you're already not that good of [a] cook. Oh! Well, safe to say that cake was terrible, but I hope they figured it out since then. I'm not really sure what they're up to, but I, I believe that they have made some good cakes in their life. I would like to believe.

“And I had lost so much blood that they called the emergency unit.”

This one time, me and my brother went on a bike ride, and -- it was a 20-mile bike ride, and we were hot and sweaty, and we got home. I was 17. He was 21. We were fighting over the front door teasingly. We were joking around. And I would open the door, and he would shut it, and I would open it, er -- and he would open it, and I would shut it, to see who would get into the shower first. And I gave up, and he opened it one last time, and I put my arm through it. And I saw this piece of glass come down, slow motion, and then I saw my bone, and then I saw the blood. And I had lost so much blood that they called the emergency unit to come and get me because I was passing out. I had 150 stitches put in my arm on the inside and the outside. And I'm a freckle-faced girl, so now my freckles on my arm turns into stripes over my scar. So I have a striped scar. That was the last time I think I did anything athletic.

“So kinda mid-morning we drove into the ER.”

On Saturday, my mom and I drove up to Petoskey and went to a few places there, and on the way up and down, and when we got home, she was saying that she didn't feel very well. Kind of having some stomach issues and kind of bad cramping, and, but she had mentioned it all day and she went to bed and slept pretty well. Woke up in the morning and still just really not feeling well, and I said to her, "Okay, so what has to happen here? How do we know when we have to go into Urgent Care or into the hospital or whatever?" And so, I, I said, "Why don't you call, like, the nurse ask-line, and ask them -- you know, give them your symptoms and see what they recommend." So, she did, and they told her that their recommendation was that she go into the doctor within the next four hours basically. And it was a Sunday, so, like, the doctor's not open. And she asked about, would urgent care you know, be a, an option, and they advised against it thinking that they would not have the equipment if they needed to do an x-ray or a CT scan or, you know, some sort of imaging of her, of her stomach or whatever. And so, they advised her to go to the ER, which we did. So kinda mid-morning we drove into the ER. It was not too busy, luckily. Really not too busy, and we didn't have to wait too long to get back into a room. And they took her for an x-ray, then took her for a CT scan, and determined then that she had a partial colon obstruction. So, it looked like her colon was twisted, or in some way not the way that it was supposed to be. So then they needed to do a different CT scan from a different angle or with different contrast or something. And they did that. And, and when they did that procedure to get that contrast in there, they think that that helped to untwist the colon. So she was released. So this was around -- oh, it was about seven and a half hours later, about seven and a half hours later.
