“I actually had a really great plan for Fourth of July.”

I actually had a really great plan for Fourth of July. I live about an hour away from a yacht club where I do sailing and they had a whole bunch of activities planned for the weekend.  So I just decided to spend the weekend there. I slept on the  boat, which had an AC unit.  It was very comfy, and it's way better than driving an hour home and an hour back every day.  So on Friday night, they had different tents spread out, and it was outside and they had different drinks and snacks that you could try, and I guess it was like a little competition and that was a lot of fun. Saw lot of friends and since it was outside, you know, we were able to keep our distance a little bit, which was fine.  I did have my mask for the weekend and inside the yacht club you had to wear it when you're not sitting down and so I wore my mask at various times throughout the weekend.

“I actually went to Kalahari, which was just very fun.”

My favorite thing this week is -- hmm, that's a really hard question because I haven't done really anything fun this week. Where we just go? Kalahari! So tell them about your trip. I actually went to Kalahari which was very fun. Kalahari is a fun place that I like to go with my family and -- and -- what you can play there for –- you can play there in the water, you can get like lots of food that you, maybe like there like pizza, popcorn, if you like those things or cheeseburgers, you could probably like maybe to go there. Maybe. Yeah And there’s a lot of good food, and you can stay in a room for a couple of nights, but if we stayed right there for a year, you're probably going like spending like almost all your money probably. Yeah.

“Get yourself distracted, and you don’t even remember about being in quarantine.”

We watched -- we got Disney plus a few days ago for a month and we watched Hamilton and that was amazing because I’ve been wanting to watch Hamilton for like a really long time. I've been listening to the soundtrack for like maybe four years and it's -- it was really fun. And so I think it's really cool to like have really fun things to get like yourself distracted and you don't even remember about like having — being in quarantine. I think that's like the most important thing to do in quarantine is well one, to stay safe. But two, to do fun things cause then you won't be bored and stuff and to — and not — and you'll forget about all the things that are going on.

“We had things like Google Classroom, but I don’t feel like the tools were used successfully.”

I, am I'm a senior this year. Yeah, it's definitely been weird with the whole COVID thing as far as school goes, because finishing up my eleventh grade year I was actually online for the last tri of it basically. I barely started my third trimester at the school, um you know, and it was so it was so interesting being online because I feel like as a community everybody really tried to support the elementary Schools and all of that and that's all great and fine, but when it came to the high school, that's where we really failed. And in the middle schools. Because you have elementary teachers who can easily go out to a second grader or a first grader’s house and sit in the driveway and do math with them. But a High School teacher, I mean we're so used to sitting in a classroom and having hour-long discussions that — they — no teacher did that we had things like Google classroom, but I don't feel like the tools we had were used successfully. Honestly, I wish that we had a little more knowledge about how to deal with the situation.

“I kind of feel responsible to be productive.”

I kind of feel a responsibility to be productive.  It's kind of in some ways that it’s a subset of what I've seen people talking about with quarantine like they feel like with all this free time, whether they're working or not, just being home or whatever, they feel like with the free time, they should be making productive use of that time. You know, I feel that a little bit, you know, all this free time should be working out, should be cleaning, should be catching up with friends, should be writing, should be practicing guitar. You know, whatever -- whatever it is for the particular person.

“It’s still a lovely day… I’m still choosing to go out.”

So I'm currently recording from Grand Mere beach. It's the beach I frequent all the time since growing up. But unfortunately in the last two years erosion has pretty much destroyed the beachfront. It used to be a very large beach, with walking trails to get to it. So it was very secluded, but unfortunately because the shoreline is destroyed boats are just kind of encroaching closer and closer, making it difficult and pretty dangerous to swim here. So hopefully they will restore it back to the way it was, but just in the last, again, two years, it's been -- it's pretty much, it's not a touristy beach and it's difficult to swim and also access. We have a little shoreline to kind of lay a towel down on but it's still a lovely day and so you can see even though the quarantine's still kind of in effect, I'm still choosing to go out. The gyms are still currently closed, so I don't have a means to swim. I'm used to swimming about twice a week and I don't have a pool to do that in at the gym. So I figured the beach would be a good alternative. Normally because there's so many tourists that come from, Illinois, Indiana to South West Michigan, I would never think to go to the beach on a weekend, but because of COVID, there has been limited tourism this year; and so therefore I actually can get a spot at the beach.
