“It was really fun because I was sick of staying in my house during covid-19.”

Have you ever gone on a picnic? Tell us about your experience eating outside. So I remember when I was in about second grade during, uh, the covid-19 pandemic. We did not have school. Um, and it was, like, boring just eating lunch at home. So, sometimes I would pack a lunch, like what I would normally have for school lunch: a sandwich, a snack, fruits, and vegetables. And, well, I probably brought a water too. And then we have a soccer field near our house with a park and everything and I would just walk over there and eat lunch by the soccer field and sometimes my sisters would come with me and then we would play soccer there. And it was really fun because I was sick of staying in my house during covid-19. So I would just pack my lunch and go to the soccer field. And that was a fun experience because usually during covid, I didn't get to get out of the house. I didn't go to places. So it was nice to have that park, it's nice to have that park near my house, especially during that time.

“Instead of like, Oma and Opa, I say Pake and Beppe.”

Yesterday I was not feeling well, so I stayed home. My mom and dad got back, though and I was like, "Yes! Yes!" Oh, yesterday, my Beppe -- my -- I call her Beppe, it's Grandma. It's another way of saying it, instead of like, Oma and Opa, I say Pake and Beppe. It's another Dutch way to say Grandpa and Grandma, okay? But yesterday, I was downstairs in the basement, and my Beppe, she was gonna go and go to the store and get some stuff for something. So yeah, then she asked me what I wanted, like what kind of fun drink or what, like, something else. And I said I wanted Fan- -- orange Fanta. And she asked me what candy or treat I would like, and I said Reese's. I love both of them. She got me three egg Reese's and you know those tiny cans? She got me a pack of those. Fanta. I drank three yesterday and they're still underneath my bed. And I'm like, I'm gonna drink one later probably. My, my, my siblings don't know. They don't know. I ate the last Reese's before they came.

“If I didn’t sub for them, they would have to be disqualified or like forfeit”

But, um, so what was I talking about? JTT, junior tennis team. We make our own team of four to five people and we play each other and I had to sub for someone because -- for a different team. I'm like, "Okay, I'll do it." And then I figured out it was the same time, same night of my game, but if I didn't sub for them, they would have to be disqualified or like forfeit. So, I mean like -- I'm like, "You know, I'm not that mean." So I subbed for them and skipped my JTT. But I mean, we both lost, my team and their team, but I was okay with that because I had a lot of fun with my friends.

“He brought a fertilizer sprayer, and he put mints in it.”

Friday was "Anything but a Backpack" day, and we also had to wear blue, and we had to wear blue for the unified basketball game. And I think [name] won on Friday, "Anything but a Backpack," 'cause he brought a, a -- oh, what are they called? It's like, a fertilizer sprayer. So, he brought a fertilizer sprayer, and he put mints in the -- in it. So then when the people who, like, judge came through, he put the mints in it, and he started walking around with it so it, like, sprayed mints everywhere. So yeah, that's how he won.

“He started manufacturing these hats in Ironwood, Michigan, where he was from.”

I don't know if you've ever heard of Stormy Kromer? It's a company in Ironwood, Michigan. So it's right on the very western tip of the UP, and I think it's so far west that it's even on central time. It had its start, I wanna say, you know, maybe close to a hundred years ago by an individual who -- he was a train conductor at the time, I believe. And he wore a baseball cap, but he couldn't keep his ears warm with his baseball-style cap, and he -- or his engineer hat didn't keep his ears warm. So the, the guy who started asked his wife, "Can you sew ear flaps on my engineer hat so my ears can be warm?" And so she did and started this distinctive style of hat. And then all his friends saw them and wanted them, and so he started manufacturing these hats in Ironwood, Michigan, where he was from. And they still make them there today, and they've certainly -- they've been bought out. The company kinda languished as he aged and didn't give it much attention, but was recently bought out and they've got a much more wide-ranging style of not just these hats, excuse me, but mittens, gloves, jackets, shirts, hats -- all different kinds of products, and it's a, a really cool place. We were up there a couple years ago and tour -- got a tour of their factory. You know, it's a US-made product, and a lotta their products incorporate plaid, different colors of plaid fabric, and it's, um, some for women as well as men. So, it's a really cool brand and I would highly recommend if anybody's looking for a hat to keep their ears warm during the winter to check out Stormy Kromer made in Ironwood, Michigan.

“For some reason, I saw it and I was like, ‘This is — I could do that.'”

One of our team members saw someone using a loom to weave cloth and thought it looked easy, then found out it wasn't. When was the last time you thought, "I could do that!" then realized you couldn't?  Oh, there was this -- this is like, super niche. This might not even make sense. But -- so I work as a software developer, and I saw this demo on X and this guy had this, like, 3D sphere showing up in the web browser, and it was spinning around. It might have been a 3D wireframe. Can't remember. Or maybe it was a point cloud? It was pretty dope. And then he was able to drag it between two different browser windows and have continuity, and that's kinda nuts that he was able to do that. I'm not even 100% sure how he did that, but for some reason, I saw it and I was like, "This is -- I could do that." And then I, I spent like maybe half an hour to an hour looking into it, and there's like this 3D JavaScript library that I'm familiar with called three.js and I tried to look into it, and yeah, I just got nowhere. I was just -- I was just like, "Oh." Yeah, that's a pretty dope demo. That's a little outside my, my skill right now.
