So our cruising buddies and I — us decided to go on a cruise in 2018 on the Hudson River. We were leaving from New York City and we’d go up the Hudson River to the top and then turn around and come back. It was a week, a week, uh, cruise. It was very nice. But, it wasn’t as nice as any of the other things. And this was from that American Cruise Line company, that ever- — that brags about their cruises. And everybody that we know that’s been on one of their cruises has said that their cruises are wonderful. “Oh, it’s just lovely.” Well, this one wasn’t quite so lovely. It had some problems, and, it was just not that great. We got started, they took — we flew into New York City. We had a great cab driver. He took us to the boat. We got on the ship, we got our cabins, we went to lunch, and we were supposed to go from there and get on a bus and go on a tour of New York City. We went to the 9/11 Memorial, which was lovely and it was a beautiful fall day, and that part of it was lovely but we didn’t go anywhere else. They didn’t take us by Central Park. They didn’t take us by anything at all famous or interesting.
And after dinner, we went down — we began our trip out of New York on the, on the ship. And we were headed towards Sleepy Hollow, which is cool and spooky. But we only saw the Statue of Liberty from a distance and, I mean, we were in the Hudson River right in front of it. We could’ve gotten a little closer, I think. There were a lot of things about that cruise that were not that great. It’s bad when you know — and I am a retired history teacher, and I do love Revolutionary War history, but it’s bad when you know more than your tour guides. And you feel like you oughta take over, and you have to just sit there and listen to them. And they look at you like you’re rude and, and stupid because you’re not paying attention. Well, I’m not paying attention ‘cause I know way more about it than you do. But, anyway, that was — I was being a nasty — well, I wasn’t being nasty, I was just being — not doing anything, I just kinda sat there.
Then they — the comedians they had. Usually they have entertainment at night and the comedian they had on that, I actually got up and walked out and went to the cruise director and complained. The man was an old comedian who talked about how awful women were, how awful their driving was, how awful their cooking was, how awful this, that, and the next thing. It was like we were in the ’50s and it was some old late-night comedian guy. It was terrible. And most of the women slowly but surely got up and left. And the cruise director was kind — was a woman, and she was kind of looking like, “Why is everybody leaving?” And I decided to go tell her. So, yeah, we are not taking any more cruises on that line, even though there’s a couple things we, we had planned to go to.
