I also remember my first time shaving my chest, which was a really big moment. It’s a too much information thing, I think, but one of my high school teammates used to call me Patch Adams, be- based upon like a movie starring Robin Williams called Patch Adams, because I had like this puff of chest hair in between my pectorals at the time.
And, I don’t know. I think what happened was after high school, I did put on some weight that first year out. I had a lot of misconceptions about health at the time. But then I wanted to lose it all, by working pretty hard, getting back into basketball, etc. And I wanted to be able to see the difference in my body. So I figured to get rid of the chest hair would allow me to see my body transform, and I just kind of stuck with it. I use a razor. One time I Naired it. On July 3rd, 19- oh, sorry, 2003. I Naired my chest the day before the Fourth of July, because I was curious about what Nair was and I saw it in my friend’s cabinet. I burnt my chest, chemical burns I believe, and I spent most of the Fourth of July just laying in bed, face up, because my chest was so red and irritated.
I left the Nair on for way longer than I should have, because I just didn’t think it was going to work, was my reasoning. So it was like, I want to give it the best shot possible to work, so I’ll just — if it tells me to keep it on for five minutes, I’ll keep it on for twice that, you know, just to make sure. As it turns out that was a critical mistake.
