Dr. Sneller Featured in NYT Piece About Haley Stevens’ Accent

In a recent New York Times article, MI Diaries principal investigator Dr. Betsy Sneller gave her expert analysis of the voice of Michigan congresswoman Haley Stevens, discussing the congresswoman’s use of NCS vowels and Canadian Raising. In response to accusations of Congresswoman Stevens’ Michigan accent being inauthentic, Dr. Sneller gave Stevens’ accent a “sociolinguist stamp” of approval.
